Damaged Bee Suit Hood Repairs
The beekeeping season is wrapping up in USDA Zone 6b so here’s a tip for those who have damaged bee suits. If you have holes in your bee suit hoods, you don’t have to buy a new suit, you can’t repair the hoods.
Several suits were donated to our local bee club with holes in the hoods so I volunteered to wash and repair them. In looking into the material used for the hoods, it became clear to me that black mesh is the same mesh used in window screens.
After getting window screen repair patches, I wore a couple of the patched suits and the patches held quite nicely.
So instead of investing in another bee suit - unless you have holes in the suit itself you can’t repair - just mend the holes in the bee suit hood with window screen patches. And save yourself some money!
